We are looking forward to an awesome 2022 - 2023 garden season! We discussed the following items during this meeting:
Keeping 25% of the garden for herbs. Many residents like having access to these herbs.
Extending the mulch area for vines. The intent is that the garden be contained within the planter and mulched areas only.
Adding a compost area.
Adding QR codes to the planters (this is complete) so residents are informed on the status of the garden.
Adding a community garden bulletin board (pending board review) to educate residents and especially the children about the plant varieties. This should be a fun educational space!
Bulletin board will also advise residence on what is open for anyone to pick (i.e. herbs and tomatoes) and what should ONLY be picked if you are actively participating in the cultivation of the garden (i.e. longer growing cycle vegetables with only a few including purple cauliflower, cabbages, etc.). Will also advise residents when vegetables are ready to pick; many vegetables were picked prior to them actually being ready.
Meetings will be scheduled every first and third Sunday at 9am.
Existing garden clean-up is scheduled for Sunday 9/4 @ 9am which is to prepare the beds for the next season.
New plantings are scheduled to be added Sunday 9/18 @ 9am. If any resident would like to participate, they are encouraged to start growing plants from seeds or to bring small vegetables on that day.
Plants will include a variety of herbs (basil, rosemary, dill), tomatoes, eggplant, romaine lettuce, spinach, peppers and many others.
